Semi-senior criminal lawyer
Bravo Advocats · L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) · Permanent contract · Full time, office-based · €35,000 – €40,000 gross per year in 12 payments · Immediate start or at short notice
We are looking for a semi-senior criminal lawyer to strengthen the firm's criminal area and take on its day-to-day management, under the technical and strategic direction of the firm's leadership.
We want someone with real experience in criminal law, sound procedural judgement, strong legal drafting, confidence in the courtroom and the ability to deal with clients autonomously and with a focus on results. You will work with an active criminal caseload from day one.
Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of the firm's criminal caseload.
- Handling first criminal consultations and making an initial assessment of the matter.
- Analysing legal viability, procedural risks and defence or prosecution strategy.
- Acting as counsel in criminal proceedings, under the firm's technical coordination.
- Drafting procedural documents: criminal complaints (denuncias and querellas), defence and prosecution briefs, appeals, applications for investigative measures, challenges and enforcement filings.
- Assisting detainees at the police station and the duty court.
- Preparing statements, examinations, documentary evidence and closing arguments.
- Attending and conducting criminal trials as counsel.
- Monitoring deadlines, hearing dates and case progress, and keeping the client regularly informed.
Requirements
- Law degree and the qualifying Master's for admission to the legal profession, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Bar membership as a practising lawyer.
- At least 3 years' real experience as a practising criminal lawyer; between 4 and 6 years will be particularly valued.
- Real trial experience as lead counsel of record in criminal proceedings.
- Experience assisting detainees, at police stations and at duty courts.
- Experience in first criminal consultations and in closing professional engagements.
- Strong legal drafting, organisation and rigorous deadline management.
- Availability to work on site in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
We will particularly value
- An indicative minimum of 50 criminal trials as lead counsel; especially profiles with 100 or more courtroom appearances.
- Experience before investigating courts, criminal courts and provincial courts; additionally before prison supervision courts, the National High Court and the Supreme Court.
- Involvement in minor offences, fast-track trials, abbreviated procedures, summary procedures and jury trials.
- Economic crime, property and technology-related offences, offences against life and physical integrity, gender-based violence, road traffic offences, breaches of sentence, enforcement proceedings and corporate criminal liability.
- Full dedication to the firm, with no legal aid duty rota, on-call shifts, outside collaborations or personal caseload interfering with the working day.
One-off substitutions, accompaniments, traineeships, support work, trials prepared by another lawyer and appearances without acting as lead counsel will not count as your own trials. At a later stage you may be asked for anonymised evidence of your trial experience, always respecting client confidentiality.
Conditions
- Permanent contract, full time, office-based.
- Hours: Monday to Thursday 9 am–6 pm and Friday 9 am–2 pm.
- Gross annual salary of €35,000 – €40,000 in 12 payments, depending on real criminal experience, autonomy and professional fit. The upper band is reserved for candidates who can demonstrate genuine autonomy in managing a criminal caseload, first consultations, closing engagements and conducting trials.
- Progress review at 6 months and salary review at 12 months.
- Possibility of a performance-related variable or bonus once established in the role.
- No client portfolio of your own is required.
Selection process
- An initial video call of around 30 minutes.
- A short practical test focused on legal reasoning and criminal procedural strategy.
- A final in-person interview focused on personal fit, ways of working and medium- and long-term expectations.
Your application must include an up-to-date CV, your bar membership number and bar association, a personalised covering letter and a structured account of your criminal experience (years in practice, trials as lead counsel, courtroom appearances, types of proceedings, courts you have appeared before, drafting autonomy, your position regarding the legal aid duty rota, availability and salary expectations).

- Bar membership as a practising lawyer.
- Around 4 to 8 years' experience in civil litigation. We will also consider profiles with somewhat less experience if they can show a solid procedural grounding, strong drafting and genuine autonomy.
- Autonomy in drafting civil procedural documents and a good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Act (Ley de Enjuiciamiento Civil).
- Courtroom experience or experience in civil court appearances.
- Legal analysis, strategic thinking and a good manner with clients.
- Organisation, responsibility and deadline control.
We will particularly value
- Having run civil proceedings from start to finish.
- Experience in pre-trial hearings, hearings, interim measures, court appearances and trials.
- Clear, well-organised, results-oriented legal drafting; independent legal judgement.

Conditions
- Permanent contract, full time, office-based in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
