Criminal defence, step by step

Our criminal defence team acts both for people who have been charged and for victims of crime. The area is led by Javier Bravo Ciudad, ICAB member no. 31,660 since 18 July 2006.

We can act at different stages, from attending a detainee at the police station through to appeals before the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.

A criminal case involves more than a legal question. We work with each client to understand their particular situation and explain, plainly, where they stand and what their options are.

How criminal proceedings progress

What can be done and when depends on the stage. This map summarises the usual points so you can identify the next decision.

How we handle your case

  1. First consultation. Fixed fee. We review the summons, complaint or police report before a statement, and explain what stage the matter is at.
  2. The strategy is decided with you. Depending on the case, we weigh a plea agreement with a reduced sentence against preparing for trial. That decision is made with you before the hearing.
  3. Continuity and communication. The firm agrees who coordinates the matter, prepares pleadings, attends hearings and keeps the client informed.
